Energy efficiency
We are committed to improving operational and energy efficiency as part of our efforts to reduce operational emissions. This commitment is in line with our goal to transform into a net-zero business by 2050, as outlined in the Paris Agreement and the EU climate strategies and targets. We aim to switch to cleaner energy in our operations and source renewable energy in accordance with our Strategy 2030.
Over the past decade, OMV has successfully implemented ISO 50001-certified energy management systems at all its refineries. This integration allows for efficiency enhancements and greenhouse gas emission reductions in daily operations across all business areas.
Energy efficiency projects include modernizing assets and optimizing processes, supported by digitalization measures and new technologies, where appropriate.
Energy efficiency is also enforced through legislation in the different countries, where OMV operates. For instance, the EU energy efficiency directive requires all member states to use energy more efficiently at all stages of the energy chain, from transformation and distribution to final consumption. For OMV this means investing in initiatives aimed at decreasing fuel consumption in the mobility sector.
